Take education for example. The number one software exporter in the world is India; New Zealand is quickly becoming a rival. How can a tiny island off the coast of Australia become one of the world's top software exporters?
Plain and simple...They changed the way they do things!
They took control away from big government and they gave it to the local people who are on the ground doing the work.
The government gives block grants to each school district with no strings attached. The school districts work with the administration and the local school boards. The school boards consist of people who have children in the district. Together they decide what courses to teach, they decide what books to purchase and then they allow teachers to teach the children in their own creative way. Teachers are than paid and promoted based own their own accomplishments just like any other business.
To revamp our education system, we do not have to reinvent the wheel. We have to change the power and control structure. That is easier said than done. Those in power will fight us at every turn. Right now the government has the power; they decide what to teach and how to teach it. The unions have the control over the teachers and their wages.
We could write this scenario for just about any of our government agencies. The government takes our money against our will; they give it to their various agencies and than those agencies use our money to regulate just about every aspect of our lives.
We can change the power and control structure in our state. It won't be easy, it will take conservative representatives with strong core convictions and the vision and energy to keep up the fight every day.
